If you are going to buy advertising, blogs are one of the best values around today.
Let’s look at why and then how to do it effectively.
Blogs, by definition are niche advertising. That takes us back to maybe the first article I wrote for Think, something about sharpening you marketing like a laser rather than a shotgun. Each blog is different and has attracted a different tribe.
Compared to sites like the Knot or Wedding Wire blogs are insanely cheap. Some are as little as $50 a week with minimal contract lengths. Yes, they get fewer visitors than sites like the Knot, but if you pick them right you can get a better click through and conversion rate.
Tips for picking the right blog.
Look for ones that match your niche/tribe. Chances are good, if they are the ones you like and follow, they will match your style. Start looking here.
Read the comments. This is a great way to get a good feel for who reads a blog. Also understand that the more vocal a commentor is, the more likely they are to be influencers. Does what’s being said match your style?
Get their numbers. Look at their unique visitors not hits. Average click thrus for internet advertising is 0.05% but a well done, well placed add can go as high as 3.5% If the blog you are looking at gets 5000 uniques a week split the difference and say 1.5%, that is 75 click thrus a month for $50. What’s more, those click thrus are already motivated or they wouldn’t have been on that blog in the first place.
Great Creatives
One of the main keys to successfully advertising on blogs is to match your add to the market and the blog. Blog commenter’s can be brutal. If your add is creepy or spammy, you can be sure they will point it out and if its boring, they won’t notice it.
Blog adds should be edgy and creative. They should speak to your target brides.
