WordPress, Genesis and the Whole 9 Yards

You know I build websites, right? Well I have been using WordPress and the amazing themes from Brian Gardner since back in the days of Revolution.

If you are a regular reader then you know that I am an advocate of giving the market what it wants in the way that it wants it. So here it begins…

The reason I use WordPress is because it is so easy for my clients, the end user, to update and manage themselves. The way I have been doing it is to design, create and install a complete website and I will continue to do that. What has occurred to me is that many of you have the skills and talent to do a whole lot of that yourselves, you just need someone to come in and tweak it.

Just like I tell my clients, think differently. Break up your packages. Let your client decide what bits and pieces they need from you and then let them buy that way. I’m taking my own advice.

As you may have noticed, I am now an affilate for the Premium Genesis Theme for WordPress. Seriously people, if you are going to build your own WordPress website, it doesn’t get any better than Genesis Theme Framework and the lovely assortment of child themes.

Genesis if fully optimized for SEO by one of the best there is,  Greg Boser and because of the automatic updates to the Genesis Theme Framework, it will stay that way. You never have to think about your SEO again.

Brian and team brought security expert Mark Jaquith in to make sure the Genesis theme framework had the best security possible. With his help, they build their theme framework to follow all WordPress security best practices.

In short if you want to DIY a website, there is no better place to start.

But…

I’m still here doing what I have always been doing, just more so.

If you need me to build you a website, I can do that.

If you need me to hold your hand as you DIY, I can do that.

If you need me to come in a tweek what you have done, I can do that.

If you need me to go in and customize your theme, I can do that.

Heck, you can even have me manage the whole thing for you once it’s finished.

It is all about delivering the goods to the right clients in the way they need them delivered.

But wait! There’s more!

As you may have noticed, this site is built on one of the classic Studiopress themes. I have been so busy building for clients that I haven’t taken the time to upgrade my own site!!! YIKES!(ya, ya, I know…my kids always got birthday cakes from Baskin Robbins too.)

So starting on Tuesday, I’m going to dive in and upgrade to Genesis live and in public. If you want to follow along, just keep checking in next week and watch the change from perfectly good site to total carnage to shiny new website. Should be fun. Gulp.
