I am
a twenty year veteran of the wedding industry. I have spent time as everything
from a baker/designer to writer to speaker. Most of all I am a small business
owner just like you. For the last few years I have been splitting my time
between writing and working with other small business owners to conquer this
monolith we call the wedding industry.
In my quest to
understand as much as possible about all areas of our industry I have farmed
myself out to work with stationery firms, floral design companies, bridal
salons, wedding planners and caterers down in the trenches where the real
questions arise. I have worked through bridal market with publishers, salon
owners, designers and the people that work with the factories overseas. I have
stood on my feet for hours on end at monster bridal shows just like you have.
I have managed
impossible deadlines for impossible brides when it was my name on the invoice,
just like you have. I know what it takes to make a business in this industry
work because I’ve done it, for 18 years I owned a top tier boutique bakery.
One thing I have
noticed is how much this industry and the clients we serve have changed over
time. The last five years have brought on major upheavals. The way we do
business has changed and so have the people we serve. The wedding industry in America is
estimated to be somewhere between $85 and $130 BILLION a year. That my friends
in not pocket change.
Today I concentrate
on helping small businesses in this industry succeed. Marketing to this new
generation of brides is a new ballgame and unless you are on top of it you are
missing the boat. I have set up a variety of marketing tools for my clients
such as email newsletters, blogs, advertorials and social marketing campaigns.
Some of my clients have included Mon Cheri Bridal, Weddings the Bridal Show,
Erica Koesler, Simplicity Gourmet and Tennessee Wedding and Events Specialists
Association.
I am very involved in
writing for both the industry and for the bride. In addition to writing for
this site and my blog Wedding Dish I also write for various bridal magazine and
websites in both the US and the UK: Bridal Buyer, Nashville Scene, Enchanted
Brides, Franklin Is…, TWESA.
Today's brides are
the most tech savvy we have ever seen. Unless you are on top of the changing
landscape of marketing in the new media you will never reach the brides you are
seeking. You know as well as I do that running your own business leaves very
little time to keep up on anything else. That is where I come in handy. Let me
put together an advertising strategy that works for you in today's changing
media.
